The Winter Shines Festival is one of Saskatoon’s finest annual festivals and draws thousands of visitors from all over the country. Watch an ice sculptor as he magically transforms a block of ice into a beautiful piece of art; visit the ice park and go skating or climb an ice wall; taste the many culinary delights as chefs partake in the soup cook-off; or just admire the many ice sculptures that are on display.

Each summer, there is the Taste of Saskatchewan festival, featuring over 30 of Saskatoon’s finest restaurants, serving their house favorites. This week-long festival is filled with food, fun and entertainment for the whole family, complete with live bands and performers.

Although Saskatoon is vying for an NHL team, it hasn’t happened yet. That doesn’t mean you won’t find avid hockey fans here, though. There are plenty of supporters for teams like the Toronto Maple Leafs, The Calgary Flames and the Vancouver Canucks, among others. Anyone who visits Canada knows that every Canadian loves hockey! Meewasin is the Cree word for beautiful, and beautiful it is! This conservation runs approximately 60 kilometers and runs along the South Saskatchewan River. There are many hiking trails, where you can take in the beautiful landscapes; or you can canoe alone the River in a natural, peaceful setting. Meewasin encompasses parks, trails, museums and university lands. In the winter, cross country skiing is a popular activity here.

Saskatoon, like many cities in Canada, has very cold winters and very hot summers. The difference is that Saskatoon’s humidity levels are lower, thus resulting in tolerable temperatures. The city also gets its fair share of snow in the winter.
